Vertebral Artery Dissection
On Monday, January 14, I had a ear pain and decided to go to see a doctor. As I was driving, I felt a severe headache --- so severe that I had to cry out aloud as I was driving. I parked the car near a restaurant and called my secretary to send me a driver to take me to an emergency room.
I had CT, MRI, and many other tests. The doctor told me that they suspected that I suffered from Vertebral Artery Dissection and taking anti-coagulation drug like Wafarin as I had been doing since 1992 is the best treatment available. The doctor also said that he saw blood clot somewhere in the head, which Wafarin is the best treatment for.
After trips to the emergency room 2 times and hospitalization for 3 days, I am now back home and have been working for few weeks. My blood pressure which at one time as as high as 200-120 is now down to around 130-90. I still have some stiffness in my neck and feel headache and pressure in various parts of my head occasionally.
I am thankful that I am back home and is as normal as I can be at this situation.
I do not think my children know what I and Emily went through because we intentionally did not tell them about the seriousness of the incident. Maybe I should tell them about it.
The doctors at a major hospitals in Korea are so busy that they cannot have long conversations with their patients. Same with the doctor I saw at Samsung Hospital in Seoul. I think I need to find a neurologist with a private practice.
